Frequently Asked Questions

What are the products made from?

All pieces are precision machined one by one from solid brass. They are available plated in silver and gold.

Are they really custom?

Yup, each set is made to order based on the initials/letters you supply. Each screw bangle and ring order includes a 2 part bangle/ring, 2 custom screws and matching screwdriver.

How long til I get my order?

Since every set is made to order, allow around a week or two, plus shipping.

Whats the deal with brass? Will it make my skin green?

Good question. Brass is an alloy of copper (it is copper with a bit of zinc added). the exact color and properties of a given type of brass depends on how much copper and how much zinc are used. I'm always hunting for the best metals to use, looking for the best balance of aesthetic and mechanical properties. The appearance of the brass products I make will vary from time to time depending on what alloy of brass I'm using.

If you have ever seen copper rooftops or statues turn green, that is the result of oxidation. One of the great things about brass (at least in my opinion) is that it develops its own character (patina) when worn over time.  This is the result of the balance between oxidation of the copper in the metal when exposed to air and sweat, and polishing of the metal from being worn. In my experience, the final appearance of a brass bracelet differs from person to person depending on body chemistry, environment etc. Some people will notice on humid days that their skin under the brass can pick up a green cast. This is due to the oxidation of the copper content of brass. I find that this tends to decrease the more the brass is worn. the good news is that it is not dangerous, and is not any sort of unusual reaction. Its a known property of the metal.

If this is a  concern to you, there are things we can do to prevent it. I can seal the brass with a hard wearing , clear coating that protects the brass from the environment and stops oxidation and color change. The downside of this is that you don't get the patina that I think makes brass so good. Alternatively, if you order a silver or gold plated product, this also will seal the brass from the environment and will prevent any copper oxidation.

I don't live near a retailer, how do I work out my size?

Easy. If you are interested in a bangle, download the sizer from the link at the top of the site. print out the pdf and cut out the strap. Wrap it around your wrist snugly (not tight) and line up the white arrow with one of the numbered black arrows. Thats your size. This will result in a reasonably fitted bangle. If you would like it looser, choose the next size up.

For the rings, its even easier. You may already know your US ring size. If not, head over to your nearest jeweller and get sized up.

If you have any questions or concerns, let me know, and I'll try to help sort out the best size. I may ask you to send me a photo of the sizer strap around your wrist.

What if it doesn't fit?

Don't worry! I've got you covered. If it doesn't fit, send it back and I'll send you another that hopefully fits perfectly.

Do you take returns?

I aim to deliver the best possible product. If for any reason you are unhappy, let me know, if we cant work something else, I'm happy to return or exchange.
